FRESHWATER PEARLS

Nephrite Jade | Rhodonite | Fossil Mammoth Ivory | Freshwater Pearls | Mother of Pearl | Bill Diment Collection

Ninety percent of the world’s freshwater cultured pearls are grown in Asia. Available in a wide range of natural colors, they occur in shades of white, pink, and lavender. Freshwater pearls have thick layers of nacre, which give each a strong luster and glowing appearance. In addition, the thick layers of nacre prevent pearls from chipping, cracking, and losing their beauty. To care for freshwater pearls, take them off being using soap or applying hand and body creams. Never clean pearls with harsh detergents and solutions containing ammonia. Do not store with other jewelry such as diamonds, for pearls tend to be scratched easily. Wear them often so their strong luster is maintained through contact with natural body oils.
